Based on our discussions in class and the resources listed, respond to the following questions in no less than 150 words:
With the republicans taking control of the House of Representatives, one of their stated goals is to repeal the health care law that was passed earlier in the year. There is question though if the Republicans will have enough power/support for a full repeal. Many believe that Republicans will instead focus on other ways of attacking the law. Republicans seek Democratic allies in health care fight:

Based on the White House summary, what is your opinion of the Health Care Law? Do you think republicans should try to repeal the law? Why/why not? Do you think they will be able to? Why/Why not?
Based on the White House's summary of the Health Care Law, I feel that the reform will only help the American Citizens. The new law states that; Insurance companies can no longer put a lifetime limit on the amount of coverage enrolles receive,Before reform, insurance companies could cancel your coverage when you were sick and needed it most because of a simple mistake on your application. Under reform, this practice will be prohibited, Young adults will be allowed to remain on their parent’s plan until their 26th birthday, unless they are offered coverage at work,New rules will prevent insurance companies from denying coverage to children under the age of 19 due to a pre-existing condition, and Insurance companies' ability to place annual limits on care will be restricted. There are also new acts that will hopefully bring down the cost of health care while still improving the quality. I can't imagine why Republicans would feel so strongly on repealing the law. It seems extremely beneficial to the American citizens especially during this time of money shortage. I do see how this could potentially cost the country more money because we are offering better quality for a cheaper price. I think that if anything, the Republicans will try to amend certain aspects of the law without repealing the entire thing. I don't think that the Republicans should push to repeal the law because their job should be to help the people that elected them. I don't think that the Republicans will be able to successfully repeal the law because so many people are for it.
ReplyDeleteBased on the Whites House summary, I agree with the health care law one hundred percent, because I feel that it would help everyone out financially, as well as not going bankrupt. The Republicans make me very angry, when they say that they are endorsing the ideas, but still want to repeal the law. They explained in the article that they would oppose to people to carry insurance at all times, and would rather have the healthy go without any insurance, until they actually get sick. However, the article continued to say that doing this and not giving the insurance until people demand it to be given to them, will leave the health insurers to charge huge premiums and go bankrupt. I don’t see how repealing the law would actually help anything financially at all, so the Republicans really seem like they don’t know what they want, or know what they are talking about. Technically, the bill already became a law, and even though the Republicans have the house, and they are allowed to have committee and floor action to make a debate and vote on their decision, it ends up going to the President, passed or not, and he can veto it. They also don’t have enough support and votes to get the repeal done, and Obama said to them, if they have any suggestions to actually make ideas if it does get repealed, then he would take them. However, the Republicans have answers for nothing, and seem to be just spitting out stupid things they want to do, that will actually ruin the economy more. How could they be so wrong to state that a person can have their health insurance at all times? People can get hurt or fall, and get sick at any time. They are making no sense at all, and Obama has ideas and strategies that have already gone into effect with the health care, but people don’t like him?

Based on the White House summary, my opinion of the Health Care Law is that we need to keep it the way it is. The one thing that Democrats were able to accomplish was to have this health care law passed. I do not think that republicans should try to repeal the law because they won’t win. I hope that the democrats will fight for the rights or the people to at least have full covered health insurance like other nations do. We need this health care law even though over the past blogs I have said that we should cut down on the health care because it’s a lot of money and that we give too much but that’s the only thing we do give when you think about it. Ones I read about the benefits people are receiving etc I feel that if republicans try to do something it will not work and if it does it won’t be in there advantage to have people support them in one way or another.

Based on the White House summary, I believe the Healthcare law is sounds great. The fact that it offers Americans more for less sounds good. On the contrary, it sounds too good be completely true. I guess it depends on how success the laws is with the American public. As far as the Republicans repealing the law, I think not. They don't need to do it. It simply wouldn't be in the American public best interest right now. The Brookings article quotes "Opponents (Republicans) of the health reform bill, lacking the votes to repeal it, will have enough to cripple implementation, and that supporters will not have the votes or the determination to see that the reform bill is properly implemented." Meaning that mainly the GOP wouldn't have enough power to stop it and from the opposition, the people who support this law wouldn't have the right amount of people/votes to get this law going and make sure it is held properly. From interviews to direct statements, Obama is willing to work with the GOP and if they just spend bickering and putting a hold to this bill; then nothings is going to be fixed. We are going to be in the same sinking boat, with an increasing amount of sick population. Therefore making us look incredibly bad to other nations and most importantly to our own people.
ReplyDeleteIf they try to repeal this bill, I doubt that they will be successful because mostly the Americans favor this bill (portions) and nothing will be done. So, I believe the public is just going to deal with what we have so far and not wait for the GOP to put some non-existing make believe plan into effect.

Based on the White House summary, my opinion of the Health Care Law is that it does not need to be repealed it just needs to be reformed. Statistics show that 55% want to repeal the Health Care Law. However, they would need 2/3 to veto the bill. Republicans are going to want to reform it will be able to reform it but will not be able to repeal it. I believe that the new Health Care Law is great because there are no limits for people who are sick, due to their insurances. People will finally have the right to fight to live without being turned down. Coverage is also going to increase and costs are going to decrease which is going to help many, many families in the United States.

ReplyDeleteBased on this White house summary of the Health Care Law, I think its provisions are pretty beneficial. The government is planning to change a lot, and with time I think it can happen if they really try. Patients no longer have to worry about things such as lifetime limits being in effect because they will ban that and it’ll help seriously ill patients get the care they deserve. To my understanding, this law is beneficial so why would the republicans want to repeal it? I think they should repeal other matters that aren’t as important, I also think that the republicans will not be able to repeal it because health care is a big issue in itself and it deals with the health of the people. This is one thing that the people need and they can not take it away from them. They probably will have a hard time trying.

ReplyDeleteI think the Health care law is really helpful for people and its going to get better in a few more years. I really think that the Republicans should not repeal this plan because its really helpful to people by giving better health insurance. Also the more covrege u get the less you would have to pay which is really good so you wont have to pay so much money. I dont think they would be able to repeal the health care law because peopole are probablly going to want to keep it because it sounds like a really good law that can help many people.

Based on the White House summary I believe that the Health Care Law is quite beneficial to our country. I do not think that the republicans should repeal the law for many reasons. For starters, the new Health Care Law makes it much more affordable for people to receive health care. Therefore, people who were very ill before are now able to seek the attention that they need. Although the republicans believe that this Health Care law will lead to the healthy becoming ill, I do not think that this is the way things will pan out. After reviewing the law, I feel that it is structured, and organized in a way that will benefit everyone. I do believe that the republicans will be able to repeal the law. Due to the fact that they are growing the upper hand it won’t be too difficult to find a few democrats to side with them and that is all they will need to repeal the law.

I believe that the day the bill passed was one of the grimmest days in all of American history. So it must be pretty apparent that I am against the health care law, believing it to be just as flawed as the health care bill. I believe that the Republicans should try and repel the law, seeing that it will cause nothing except trouble and put us into even more of a financial hole than we already are in. I believe that not only CAN they stop law, but they will. As of this November, the Republicans rule the house and what they say goes. They have no one to answer to and should very well do away with another hazardous law that’s going to bankrupt this country more than it already is.
ReplyDeleteVittorio Rivera period 3
I think the health care law is beneficial for every American because it provides everyone with the opportunity to have access to affordable health insurance. Many people who have been denied medical services because of their inability to pay or a careless mistakes in their application processes, will now always have the security that they will be covered. I don’t think that republicans should try to repeal the law because it contains many parts that will be beneficial and useful for many. They will also most likely fail at their attempt to repeal the Obama Health Care Law. Their attempts will probably be killed by the Senate. If not, it will most definitely not go pass Obama’s desk. They will waste time by trying to repeal a law that most democrats support. Instead, the GOP should focus on bringing change in other areas, like the economy and job creation. They need to focus their full attention and energy on the issues that are most important to Americans.

~ My opinion on the Healthcare law is that I think it is great. I think that we should take advantage and pass this law. I feel that it is terrible that just becasue some insurance policys dont cover what the patience needs are is terrible. I think that no one should get let behind for there medical expenses. The republicans should NOT repeal the law I personally think it is stupid on there part in doing so. I do not think that they can do this becasue this effects so many poeple. What if they were the ones who got diagnosed with something that there insurances couldnt afford andwas to expensive to them. whether you are rep or dem. This law effects everyone.
I think that there are some good points on the fact about the health care law such as banning lifetime limits which a lot of people had issues with. This lift on the ban will ensure more security for patients who are worried that their coverage will expire at some point – especially when they need it the most. Also the second point in which insurance companies are no longer allowed to walk away from a patient simply because of a mistake on paper work, I think that one will definitely be effective as I know a lot of people who have suffered from this simple error. The health reform isn’t perfect but it’s a start and I think that congress should take it slow when it comes to the repeal and the changing of sections, I don’t think that the Republicans should just yet. I think that they should leave the Obamacare to take its course because there are some good points and the fact that they want to change it before it even takes place is sort of rude – give it a try and if not then decide what needs to be changed. The fact that they’re asking for Democrats support really shows me that they’re desperate to change the health reform and it’s not a matter of their ideas anymore – it’s the interest of the people supposedly. I don’t think that it’ll be a big difference if the Republicans gain a few votes from the other side because in the end the Democrats are going to stick to their guns and keep the health care reform what it is because they took a lot of time and effort to make it what it is today. The Republicans are obviously desperate and will use any tactics to get some from the other side on their terms – even if it’s the ones that are on the hot seat and those that are being faced in 2012.

I believe based on the White House summary that the Health Care Law is a great thing. It is making health care more affordable, which means many people will be gaining healthcare in there lives for possibly the very first time, it holds the insurers more accountable of keeping their people satisfied and happy, and it expands coverage to ALL Americans. The law is basically making sure that when a person absolutely needs health care the most, it will be provided to you. Now people who suffer from cancer, and other serious medical diseases, will never be turned down. Like the woman with cancer in the video on the White Houses website, her doctor had told her that she either take money out from her retirement, or just die. But now after Obama had signed off this law, she now has the health care she needs to fully recover. I do not think Republicans should repeal the law, as it is only doing good to the people in need. I also think they will not be able to repeal it, as it was only recently signed off, which means enough people must have agreed to it.

The Health Care Law is far from perfect but it is a good start to the ever pressing issues of the affordability and quality of the US health care system. Before the reform bill was passed, health care costs were high, the quality of care was poor and not everybody had health care because they simply could not afford it or was rejected because of their preexisting conditions. The Health Care Law opened up the debate about health care reform and that is a step in the right direction. Not only does the quality of care need reform, but also the practices of insurance companies also need change because it leads directly to the public welfare, something the government has to uphold and protect. Republicans should not try to repeal the law at all because if it were to pass through, it would not help anybody and we will be back to square one. It is accepted that the law is not universally acceptable to everybody’s standards but to completely repeal the law would be foolish. The best solution is to actually be bipartisan and “reach across the table” to work together so that the Health Care Law can be reformed instead of torn down. This bill feeds directly into the American people’s welfare and future and they should not be denied benefits because of trivial politics. I do not think they will be able to repeal the law because the GOP does not have the majority in the Senate although they do in the HOR. But they do have the power to pass reform bills in addition to the Health Care Law to suit their own needs which is in fact the best solution out there. In the end, one can only hope that his future is not destroyed because the nonsense of politicians.
ReplyDeleteI think Obama's health care plan has very good intentions. He is trying to find a way to ensure that all Americans will be able to afford insurance in order to have and live a healthy life. However there are many things in the law that is and will be debatable and I think instead of the Republican party trying to get rid of the law they should try and fixing whats bad. This way it would cause less problems between the two parties and one less thing to argue about. I don't think the republican party will be successful in repealing the law because they do not have majority in the senate and unless the have enough skill to brainwash the democratic party in to repealing it also it will be an ultimate fail.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think the new Health Care Law seems better for people. If one is sick, the law will make sure that one will be taken care of until he/she is healed and there are no are annual limits for anyone. I think republicans shouldn’t try to repeal the law, because if many people don't join in the program, the health care fee will become higher, and then least people can handle it, go higher again. Most people agree to the health care law, so if republicans try to push health care repeal it is going to be hard.
ReplyDeleteBased on the White House summary, I like the Health Care Law a lot. I especially liked the part about getting rid of deductibles and co-payments because on a personal level my family spends a lot of money in this area. However, the key phrase there was “based on the White House Summary.” Of course they didn’t talk about the bad parts or the weak points of the new law, so I did think based on what they said the law is a really good flawless plan. I think Republicans should try and revise, add, remove certain aspects of the Health Care Law that they are unhappy with. They do make some good points on where exactly there are faults and how to fix them. However, repealing the whole law is not a good idea. Starting from scratch when the basis of what currently holds is strong and accepted by a lot of the population is stupid. Even if they try and repeal the law they wouldn’t be able to because the Democrats would not allow them. By making changes to the current law Republicans are peacefully compromising and are more likely to get see the changes they want be made.

I feel that im in favor of not repealing this act. My sister and my family would be heavily affected on this. This is because my sisters if repealed would both get dropped from our health care because they because there over 18 and have graduated from college but with Obamas new health care act they can stay on till twenty six. Also i can be kicked off if im not a full time student. As well as my mom could kicked off for reaching her hundred thousand dollar limit as she is disabled and what requires expensive medications and treatments that would surely run out inb her lifetime. Therefore with this in consideration nearly five people in my family can lose there health care insurance so im not in favor of this act being repealed. I also do not believe that the republicans will be able ot repeal this act seeing as how many people it affects and the importance of it because remember we still have the Senate and we still have the Presidency.
ReplyDeletemy take on the way the health care laws is that it will be very beneficial for the American people to have that law in effect. if the new health care law goes into effect according to the white house summary people will no longer have lifetime limits which means for them they wont have to worry about there insurance and just worry about getting better. if the republicans decide to repeal the bill it would look badly on there part because this bill is going to help the American people out and it will seem as the republicans do not want to help people. i do not think that the republicans will be able to because if they decide to repeal it and they want to have a republican for president Americans will most likely not vote for the candidate and the democrats will use them canceling the bill as ammo against the candidate
ReplyDeleteBased on the White house summary , I agree with the health care law because it will help everyone and not make them go bankrupt. I feel that Obama has a lot of ideas that will help this law and that some of what he has done already went into effect foe this law. I agree with Anastasia when she said that the “Republicans make her very angry and that they would oppose to people to carry insurance at all times, and would rather have the healthy go without any insurance, until they actually get sick.” That doesn’t really make sense because health insurance is used for everything say your healthy and one day you brake your leg and you don’t have insurance to help you pay for your hospital bill then what do you do. The Republicans don’t understand that you can get hurt or sick anytime and if you don’t have insurance to help you, then you will be paying a lot out of packet. Also that the Republicans want to repeal the law I don’t see how that will help if they wait until the people demand health insurances the rates will go up and they will go bankrupt I don’t see how that will help this problem. The Republicans try and do things but they don t always have the best ideas and sometimes their ideas don’t work.

I think that the health care plan is okay, and is a pretty good although it is not even close to being great. But its progress for the continuous issues of the means and aspects of health care system in the US. Before the bill was passed the cost of health care was high and the condition was not too good. The fact people were rejected health care because of price and conditions were also a problem. The new health care system is making steps to ensuring all Americans. Republicans are trying to get rid of the law instead of revising it, because they are finding exactly where the problems are in the system so since they know the problems then they should find the solutions. Starting all over again would not be a good idea one because the basis what is already done is good, and two because the republicans wouldn’t allow it. Fixing the system would be a good compromise for both parties.

I believe that the health care law should not be repealed. The act in its self is excellent without a limit people can get hurt all they want as a joke. But, really it is great for the senior citizens who would have run out of coverage at the age they are, especially the none wealthy ones in lower and middle class families who cannot afford a health plan. Without the health care plan there would be a lot of John Q moments. Health care is actually really serious. Instead of the Republicans trying to repeal it they should help it grow. I don’t think the Republicans will get enough votes anyway to be able to go through with this. It is a plan for the people who are less able to fully take c are of themselves.
ReplyDeleteJoshua Howard p.3
My understandings of the healthcare law are excellent. It offers Americans more benefits for themselves for less. However It is something different but sounds good, it’s something that has to be carefully spectator. Nevertheless, as far as the GOP goes it would not have enough power to make the opposition stop; “supporters will not have the votes or determination that the reform bill is properly implemented” We need a certain amount of votes to kick off this law and have it start moving, and standing strong. Too many Americans favor the bill that we have now rather than this proposed billed. Americans have stressed way to much from the health care issues and now that Obama has set new laws and has committed into the health care people just rather stick with this then take a chance.

ReplyDeleteBased on the White House summary, my opinion of the Health Care Law is that it gives you better health security by putting in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that hold insurance companies accountable, lower health care costs, guarantee more choice, and enhance the quality of care for all Americans. It’s good for cancer patient and individual suffering from other serious and chronic disease because now they don’t have a lifetime limit because the amount of coverage they can gets o families can live with the security of knowing that their coverage will be there when they most need it. With the republicans taking control of the House of Representatives, one of their stated goals is to repeal the health care law that was passed earlier in the year. Based on the White House summary I think the New Health Care Law is good because everyone will now have Health Insurance but it is also bad because people will have to start paying for the people who can not afford this insurance. I think the Republicans should try to repeal the law because the people who can afford this insurance will have to start paying more because they are covering for the people who can not afford it. Even though it would be nice for everyone to have Health Insurance it is now starting to put a burden on many families who are going to have to start paying more. I do think that the Republicans are going to be able to repeal the law because now they are the majority in office and most of them will agree that this law is not a good idea.

Based on the White House summary, in my honest opinion, I do not believe the Health Care Law needs to be repealed, more than it just needs to be reformed. Statistics show that 55% of people want to repeal the Health Care law, yet, they would still need 2/3 of the vote to veto the bill. Republicans are going to want to reform it and will be able to reform it, but I believe they will not be able to repeal it. In my opionion, the Health Care Law will be a great assest to our government. This is allowing people who are sick, to continue to get care without limits put on by their health insurance. Noone will have to be turned down, and everyone will have the opportunity to live. Coverage will also increase and costs will be decreased which is going to help a lot of people in the U.S.

Based on the White House summary, my opinion of the Health Care Law is that it it would be beneficial to the Americans. If this law is passed, people will not have "lifetime limits" which means there are no limits on people who are sick, if they need to be medicated they will be, no matter what insurance they have. That is important because it will help save lives. Insurance coverage is going to increase which will help many families who don't have great insurance and the money is going to decrease which is also going to help make a difference in the United States.

The new health care law that will be in effect after September 23rd 2010 is really great. I know that it is really hard for some people to get checkups and doctor visits because of their insurance company. it is serious in some cases because they might really need the medical attention and often times they cannot afford it. They need to change the health care bill and the only way to do this is the get more people to vote for the repeal. Yes, I think republicans should try to repeal the health care law, it is beneficial to a lot of people and they won’t have to think twice if their insurance is going to be accepted or not. Yes, i think they will be able to repeal it, like they said they don’t have an issue to get votes except from the house of senate. I think once they get the house of senate's to vote the health care repeal will officially be in effect.
I think that Health Care Law is really beneficial to everyone. But at the same time its not right that we will have to start paying more for people who cant afford it. The Republicans are probably going to repeal the law since they now have the upper hand. It is great though that everyone will have the chance to live and have a second chance at life. I truly hope that they take the second chance at life to a huge condsideration.
